A guide to registering for Kindergarten at Pittsburgh Public Schools
If your child will be 5 years old by September 30, February is the time to start registering for kindergarten at your child's neighborhood school!Familes that are new to the DistrictHere's a quick guide on the process and what you will need to register.
Identify your child's neighborhood school
Use our Discover PPS tool by inputting your address. Input house number and street address and select registered US Postal Address from drop down. Click on each school to discover more about features your neighorhood school has to offer.
Bring the supporting documents you needRequired Documents:
- Evidence of the child's age
- Two current proofs of residency
- Immunization records
- 2019-2020 PPS Enrollment & Emergency Care Form (pdf download)

Enroll in person
Take all documents to either of the following:Your child's assigned school during school year hours

You will receive early registration letters in the mail in March. Parents who take this letter to their assigned home elementary school, listed on the letter, will not be required to complete enrollment forms. Parents will only need to bring two (2) proofs of residency and updated immunization records for their child.

Our Magnet Lottery runs during the fall of every school year for the upcoming year. (Example: if your child turns 5 by September 30, 2020 - you will need to enroll into the magnet lottery Fall 2019) If you are interested in a Magnet School for your child and want to enter into the lottery, please visit our Magnet Registration page.
